The Center for the Study of Upper Midwestern Cultures, the Nordic Folklife project, and Allen Centennial Garden are joining forces to host another Bowery Dance this fall – and this time it’s coinciding with Allen Centennial Gardens’ annual Harvest Folk Festival! The Festival gets going at 12pm and will feature lots of hands-on activities (including himmeli-making with CSUMC-supported artist Mary Erickson) and opportunities to make emotional connections to plants as part of the Garden’s annual theme, Enchanted Ground.
Then at 5:15pm, head on over to the English Garden where a dance instruction will take place before the Bowery Dance. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn how to dance a 2-person, 3-person, or even a 4-person schottische before the live band strikes up! At 6pm the Bowery Dance will begin, featuring Decorah, Iowa based fiddler, Beth Hoven Rotto, and Jon Rotto of Foot-Notes as well as the Scandinavian American Old-time Dance Music Ensemble.
So, bring a dance partner or two and head over to the Allen Centennial Garden on Saturday, September 28th for a whole afternoon and evening of fun. Hope to see you there!
