The Center for the Study of Upper Midwestern Cultures (CSUMC) was established in 2001 with a grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities and the support of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. Based in the College of Letters & Science, CSUMC has offices in the University Club on the university’s Library Mall.
A critical part of the mission of a great university is to tell the stories of the peoples of that region. Some of the finest humanities scholars at the University of Wisconsin have scrutinized the full range of our region’s expressive cultures. CSUMC helps sustain their regionally-based yet universally significant work. Our work is guided by an advisory committee of UW faculty, and a band of affiliates-faculty, independent scholars and other partners-maintain our interdisciplinary focus in both outreach and research.
The Wisconsin Languages Project is a part of the Center for the Study of Upper Midwestern Cultures, located at The University Club, 432 E Campus Mall, Madison, WI, 53706.
