Welcome to the website of the Wisconsin Englishes Project! We are a group of linguists located at institutions throughout Wisconsin and neighboring states who are exploring various aspects of the dialects of English spoken in Wisconsin.
Wisconsin lies at the edge of many of the most significant language changes currently underway in American English, yet until recently our region has been largely ignored in dialect studies. Explore our website to learn more about recent efforts to understand the language of our state and region!

The Wisconsin Speech Chain On-Line (WiSCO) provides a dynamic mapping module that helps students think geographically about language variation and change and allows them to interact with their speech patterns and those of other students from different regions.
