Eighth Day

After their wedding day, the bride and groom stayed to themselves, indoors, for seven days. On the eighth day the bride would put on her "eighth-day dress" which was just as important as her wedding dress, and she and her new husband would go door to door throughout the neighborhood to visit those who had attended their wedding. It was to show themselves as a couple, to enjoy refreshments at each house and to give each family a picture of themselves on their wedding day. it was tradition and a sign of respect.
